Cadillac Mountain

If you can visit on a relatively clear day, Cadillac Mountain offers some outstanding views. The mountain is located in Acadia National Park. You can get to the top by driving. We saw some hardy souls biking to the top.

There is a lot of parking at the summit. You might have to circle around to find a spot. The view below is of the trails at the summit. A part of the summit is bare granite. You can follow any of the trails for a variety of vantage points. Some of the trails are handicap accessible. There are restroom facilities in the small shop and information center.

Cadillac Mountain is known as the place where you can see the first rays of sunshine in the United States. People will get to the mountain well before sunrise for this experience.

"If you go" tips

• Bring binoculars or a telescope if you have them

• Bring a windbreaker or sweater as it can be a bit windy

• There are restrooms available at the top

• Don't forget to fill up your gas tank prior to visiting. You can burn a bit of gas on the way up.

• If you have the time, stop at the overlooks prior to reaching the summit. There are some decent views available.

• If you have a tripod for your camera, you might want to bring it with you.

• Give yourself some time to walk around the summit. The views are constantly changing, much more than you would expect.
