Bar HarborBar Harbor is a great destination. It's located on Desert Island and is adjacent to Acadia National Park. The scenery along the coast is simply stunning.
Attractions and things to do - One of the biggest draws to the area is Acadia National Park. The town of Bar Harbor has a large business district which some people have described as 'tacky'. We found it to be a little touristy but that was outweighed by the number of restaurants and cafes that can be found there. The Margaret Todd is a four masted schooner that takes people on two hour tours of the bay.
Accommodations - At one time Bar Harbor boasted a number of large mansions or "cottages". Unfortunately many of these were lost in a major fire in the 1940's that destroyed much of the town and a large part of the island. There are some remaining mansions that offer Bed and Breakfast accommodations. Most of the large hotels were also lost.
Dining - Bar Harbor has a good number of restaurants. The competition means that it is relatively easy to find a good meal at a reasonable price. Getting there - Be prepared for a good bit of driving if you go by car. There is also a small airport, The Hancock County - Bar Harbor Airport. Some cruise ships call on Bar Harbor.
